Bending test

The purpose of the bending test

A poor or weak weld or defects in the production process are weaknesses that can lead to weakening, fracture, or failure, which in turn entail quality risks, safety risks, and cost-increasing risks.

The purpose of the bending test

A bad or weak weld or defects in the production process are weaknesses that can lead to weakening, fracture, or failure, resulting in quality risks, safety risks, and increased cost risks.

Materials Testing Veendam is a metallurgical laboratory that tests metals and metal alloys for the purposes of quality determination, reporting, and certification.

The bending tests we perform are quality tests for testing metals, welds, and welding techniques. The bending test provides a reliable indication of the deformability and rigidity of a material by bending it over a mandrel with a certain radius. The bending test is a quality test to determine the bending ductility of weld joints. Unlike a tensile test, in the bending test it is not necessary to reach the point at which the material breaks, but it can also be used to test the material’s bending strength at a specified bend radius.

The bending test is a simple but qualitative test that can be used to examine both the ductility and the toughness of a material. Bending tests within our area of expertise primarily relate to:

  • Welding qualifications
  • Detection of bonding defects
  • Stress peaks
